Unisys SCSI Disk Driver (UNIDRIV.DSK version 1.03)
for
NetWare 386 Version 3.1
October 3, 1990
____________________________________________________________________
1.0 CONTENTS
It is intended that the information contained in this
document be used in conjunction with the manuals provided by Novell,
Inc. for NetWare 386. Information which is specific to the Unisys
U6000 and PW2 SCSI/VGA combination card is provided.
This documentation applies to the Unisys SCSI Disk Driver,
"UNIDRIV.DSK". This driver is designed to work with:
o Unisys U6000/55 system internal SCSI adapter
o Unisys U6000/60 system internal SCSI adapter
o PW2 systems with (PW2-MCC) SCSI/VGA multi-function board
The following files are supplied with this release to support
the hardware noted above:
File Name Size in Bytes Date Stamp Time Stamp
------------ --------------- ---------- ----------
UNIDRIV DSK 12782 10-03-90 1:23p
SSTBIO SYS 18544 6-12-90 4:30a
Application and utility software supplied by Novell or
other vendors which are designed to run in the NetWare environment
should be installable and executable when the Unisys SCSI driver
is in use.
1.1 HARDWARE LIMITATIONS
The U6000 will support upto 12 MB of memory when used with this
driver. More than 12 MB may be installed on this machine. Any
amount above 12 MB will not be used.
Up to 10 MB of memory can be supported on PW2 500 systems.
This release of the SCSI disk driver does not support SCSI
tape for any of the Unisys systems.
Only one SCSI adapter is supported by this driver. Up to 7
disks are supported on the SCSI bus.
2.0 NETWARE SETUP STEPS
The procedure used for installation of NetWare 386 is
documented in the NetWare 386 Installation Manual.
For a new installation, make sure the disks are properly
addressed and connected to the SCSI bus. Run diagnostics to
ensure that all disks are recognized properly. All drives
should be formatted if not formatted previously. Drive C should
have DOS installed on a small (2 MB) partition.
For systems using the VGA/SCSI Combo card, SSTBIO.SYS should
be loaded via the CONFIG.SYS file. Copy the SSTBIO.SYS from the
Supplemental Driver Diskette to the drive C DOS partition and
update the CONFIG.SYS file to include the following line:
DEVICE=SSTBIO.SYS
If SSTBIO.SYS is not used, files will not be loadable from the
DOS partition and COMMAND.COM will not be accessible when the server
exits NetWare to return to DOS.
2.1 CONFIGURING THE CONTROLLER CARD
U6000 systems do not require jumper settings for use with
the NetWare 386 driver. The SCSI adapter does not utilize
AT interrupt vectors in the IRQ range. The following I/O port
addresses are used by the SCSI adapter: 0CC0, 0CC4.
The SCSI/VGA adapter provided in the PW2-MCC configurations
of the PW2-500 systems removes the need for a separate video
adapter. No special hardware setup is required. The VGA adapter is
always the primary video adapter and uses the default VGA I/O address
range, it also uses 46E8h and 0102h for reset.
A serial port is included in the VGA/SCSI card. For NetWare
installations, this port should be disabled to prevent it from
conflicting with other serial ports in the system.
The SCSI portion of the adapter uses a default of IRQ 14,
DMA channel 3, I/O ports 340-348 and BIOS address of DC000h. Jumpers
should be installed according to the following table:
Jumpers ON Jumpers OFF
---------- -----------------------
P3, P8 P4, P5, P6, P10, P12
P11 (lower pins) P9 (disable Serial Port)
2.2 DRIVER INSTALLATION
Initial installation of this driver requires the use of a
Supplemental Driver Diskette for NetWare 386 version 3.1. This
diskette contains the driver file executable file named
"UNIDRIV.DSK". This file should be copied to the same directory
where the NetWare server.exe file is installed.
Follow the instructions in the installation manual for
NetWare 386. After starting the server by running "SERVER" from
the DOS prompt (page 188, section 1) use the procedure for server
setup. Next, refer to page 190, section 1a. and enter "LOAD
UNIDRIV" to load the driver. The driver does not display prompts
for options such as I/O port addresses and interrupt settings.
All hardware specific parameters built into the driver itself.
A message will be displayed which identifies the Unisys SCSI Disk
Driver during its initialization phase.
All other instructions for the installation process should be
taken directly from the NetWare 386 Installation Manual. It
supplies detailed information on the installation and setup
procedure for the NetWare 386 operating system. For references to
the disk driver file, use the name "UNIDRIV.DSK".
2.3 ERROR MESSAGES
"SCSI Adapter operation failure"
The adapter hardware is not functioning properly.
Contact service personnel for assistance.
"SCSI Driver configuration conflict"
I/O ports, DMA utilization setup interferes with other
system resources. Some other driver is using settings
required for the Unisys driver.
"SCSI Driver disk interrupt error"
IRQ setting interferes with other system resources.
Some other driver is using an interrupt level required
by the Unisys driver.
"SCSI Driver initialization error"
NetWare is unable to initialize the driver. A system or
memory problem may be indicated. NetWare files may be
corrupted.
